Putting on Badges....

Although the Badges and Patches are fun for the girls to earn them....they are not fun for Mom's to put on...!
Granted, we don't have to sew them on anymore like my Mom used to. However, they seem to not stick very well when you iron them on. My daughters troop numbers have been also coming off!
I decided to try it a different way...!
I have this package of Heat N Bond from Jo-ann's Fabrics {across from the mall.} I am pretty sure Walmart carries this also in the craft section. It makes the fabric, or patches in this case really sticky.
Open your roll of Heat and Bond and measure out a piece that covers your patch.  These Pumpkin Patch ones did not stick very well before.
 Cut the Heat N Bond.
Next, cut it out into the exact shape and size you want it to be. {I put a towel under when ironing} Iron the Heat N Bond to the patch on Wool Setting and No Steam. Maybe 30 seconds or so until you know it's on good?!
Now, peel the backing off of the Heat N Bond like so...
Place it where ever you want on the sash and put it on just as you would normally. Iron from the back and the front {when ironing from the front, place a towel over...do not put the iron on directly to the patch!} The Heat N Bond makes it extra sticky.
Avoid looking at my poor iron. I never ironed until recently with GS..! My iron was always used for crafts!
I hope this helps you Mom's some...! It helped me.
These are a pain to put on...!

Christmas Party and Badge Ceremony 2010.

Our very first Badge Ceremony as Troop #2447...!
It was also our Christmas Party as well.
The girls had voted in November on a Gingerbread Theme.
So, we made Gingerbread Houses....!
We also had a Gift Exchange. Sandy, showed me a new way of doing the gift exchange.  It was really fun..!
You put the girls into a circle and read a story. Whenever the story says Left, you move the gift left. Whenever the story says Right, you move the gift right.
**I'll post it at the bottom in case you want to use it for a party.
After that, was our Badge Ceremony.
The girls had 4 months of Badges and Patches that they earned...!
It was then Potluck Time.
The girls had voted on Pizza, so the leaders provided the Pizza and the rest was Pot Luck Style.
We had some really good food...!
Whatever theme we go with....we get goody bags or decorate bags to match the theme for their Badges/Patches.  We usually put little notes or gifts in the bags as well for a little extra something.

We are so proud of all the girls and everything they accomplished...!

Here is the story for the Gift Exchange.

Twas the night RIGHT before Christmas when RIGHT through the house,
Not a creature was LEFT stirring, not even a mouse.
The stockings were hung RIGHT by the chimney with care,
in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be RIGHT there.
The children were nestled RIGHT snug in their beds,
while visions of sugarplums danced RIGHT in their heads,
And mama in her kerchief, and I in my cap,
had just settled RIGHT down for a long winter's nap,
When RIGHT out on the LEFT lawn there rose such a clatter,
I sprang RIGHT from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the RIGHT window I LEFT like a flash;
tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
LEFT a luster of midday to objects RIGHT below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleight and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little old driver RIGHT lively and quick;
I knew RIGHT in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came;
and he whistled and shouted, and called them RIGHT by name:
"Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! Now, Prancer and Vixen!
On Comet, on Cupid, on Donder and Blitzen!
To the RIGHT top of the porch! To the LEFT top of the wall!
Now dash away, dash away, dash RIGHT away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
when they meet RIGHT with an obstacle, mount RIGHT up to the sky,
So up to the housetop the coursers they LEFT flew,
with a sleighful of toys and St. Nicholas, too.
And then in a twinkling, I heard RIGHT on the roof,
the prancing and pawing of each little RIGHT and LEFT hoof.
As I drew in my head and was turning LEFT around -
down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
He was dressed all in fur, RIGHT from his head to his LEFT foot,
and his clothes were LEFT all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of toys he had flung RIGHT on his back,
and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.
His RIGHT and LEFT eyes, how they twinkled! His dimples - how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was LEFT drawn up like a bow,
and the beard LEFT on his chin was as white as the snow.
The stump of a pipe he held RIGHT in his teeth,
and the smoke it encircled his head LEFT around like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a round little belly,
that shook when he laughed, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was RIGHT chubby and plump, a RIGHT, RIGHT jolly old elf,
and I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself.
A wink of his LEFT eye and a LEFT twist of his head,
soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went RIGHT straight to his work,
and filled all the stockings; then turned LEFT with a jerk,
And laying his finger to the LEFT of his nose,
and giving a nod, he LEFT - up the chimney he rose.
He sprang RIGHT to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
and away they all LEFT like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he LEFT - RIGHT out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all - and to all a good night!"

Gum Ball Decoration.

For the Christmas Party, Amanda and I set out to look for Gingerbread Decorations.
We couldn't really find any for the theme. So..we decided to make alot of them to stick within some type of budget.
From Walmart, we bought the same supplies for me and for her. We talked a little about what we could do with them...and then went home to make some decorations. Well, with the same supplies we came up with totally different ideas. I love when that happens. Just like the Girls. We give them supplies for a project and they all interpret it differently!
I went with these super simple Gum Balls.
We got a package of 2 Styrofoam Balls at Walmart.
I just painted them whatever colors I had at home and set them on top of a cup to dry.
In the wrapping paper section of Winco, I found a roll of cellophane paper {this clear wrapping paper for packing baskets} for .88 cents!
I cut a piece of it and wrapped it around the dry "Gum Balls."
I had a bunch of ribbon at home already so I just tied the ends with Christmas Ribbon.
Instant Christmas Decorations...!

Canned Food...!

Troop #2447 collected Canned Food for needy families, this Thanksgiving.
Daisies, Brownies and Juniors all collected canned and non perishable foods from friends and family.
They then brought it over to Troop Leader Bonnie's house. She is our Cadette Leader {6th and 7th graders.}
Her Troop sorted the foods, painted boxes and wrapped them up nicely and distributed them to needy families.

These girls are truly amazing....!
Thank you Bonnie for a Successful Canned Food Drive.

Christmas Caroling.

Christmas Caroling is Tuesday, December 14th at 6:00 pm.  We will meet at the school and leave to sing Carols for about an hour.
Please dress really really warm...!
If you want to bring a bell for your Girl Scout, the Dollar Store sells them. Feel free to pick one up and have your girls jingle away.
After they Christmas Carol, the Girls will warm up with some hot chocolate and cookies.
If your daughter is being dropped off, make sure they sign the Permission Slip to come Caroling. They need to have someone with them 18 years or older to sign them in.

Some of the songs to practice...
Jingle Bells
Jingle Bell Rock
All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth
Rudolph
We Wish You A Merry Christmas
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
Up On The House Top

The CD that I gave to the Daisies had Frosty on it. I think that Frosty is too difficult. I don't even know the words!

We will have the songs printed out that night for the girls that can read..!
