Safety Comes First When Selling...!

1. Show You're a Girl Scout. Wear the Girl Scout membership pin and/or Girl Scout clothing to identify you as a Girl Scout.
2. Buddy Up. Always use the buddy system. It's not just safe, it's more fun!
3. Be Streetwise. Become familiar with the areas and neighborhoods where you will be selling Girl Scout Cookies. Avoid accepting anything larger than a twenty-dollar bill.
4. Partner with Adults. Adults must accompany Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors whenever they are taking orders or delivering cookies. Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors must be supervised by an adult when selling door-to-door and must never sell alone. Adults should be present at a cookie booth in any public place at all times with the girls.
5. Plan Ahead. Always have a plan for safeguarding money–avoid walking around with large amounts of it or keeping it at home or school. Give proceeds to supervising adults to deposit as directed by your Girl Scout council as soon as possible.
6. Do Not Enter. Never enter the home of a person when you are selling or making deliveries. Never go up to a car on a street or follow a customer into a building or alley.
7. Sell in the Daytime. Sell only during daylight hours, unless accompanied by an adult.
8. Know the 411 on Online Marketing. Learn the 411 on online marketing and read and sign the Internet Safety Pledge at http://www.girlscouts.org/ program/gs_cookies/cookie_activity.asp. Have adult permission and supervision for online activities. Use group e-mail, never your personal e-mail account. Be sure to follow the activities for your grade level.
9. Protect Privacy. Girl's names, addresses, or e-mail addresses should never be given out to customers. Instead, a designated adult's telephone and/or group e-mail overseen by an adult is given for reorders or complaints.
10. Be Safe on the Road. Always follow safe pedestrian practices, especially when crossing at intersections or walking along roadways. Be aware of traffic when unloading cookies and passengers from vehicles.
11.Follow the Council Lead. This includes booth sale guidelines, sale dates, donation programs, etc. Know who to call if you encounter a problem or issue.
