5 County Badges.

To celebrate our 100th Anniversary and encourage girls and adults to visit other parts of our Council, we have developed a special patch program. Girls can earn five patches between October 1, 2011 and September 30, 2012; each patch represents a county within our Council. Special for this year only each patch is edged in gold in recognition of our 100th Anniversary. These patches are free and girls earn them by attending Council Sponsored programs.
To earn her home county segment, a girl must attend two programs within her home county.
To earn each of the other county segments, a girl must attend one program within that county.
Punch cards will be made available at Council Sponsored programs. Girls are responsible for taking their card with them to all the events they attend. At the end of the Council events, there will be a booth/table where girls can get their card punched and receive their patch.

*The Council has decided to do the 5 Counties each year from now on...however, only the 100th Year ones will be in Gold Trim. The other ones will be in black trim.
* I need to think of a way not to lose the punch cards all year. I have a ton of punch cards because I kept forgetting them and getting new ones for each county. Maybe making it into a necklace and leaving it in my jewelry that I wear each day will help?

Badge/Patch Placement....!

My girls went to that Journey Workshop sponsored by another Troop {fliers were out a couple of meetings.}
With those new Journey's and all the Badges and Patches from our Award Ceremony, I really have no clue where each ones are placed now. I wanted to show you the NEW Placement of each ones in case you are having the same issues as me.

The "Pins" such as the "My Promise, My Faith" and the "Safety Award" and the "Cookie Sale Activity Pin" are ones that the girls achieve on their own at home. I know the Junior Leader gave a packet to each girl in which had information for the girls to complete those pins. If your leaders have not talked with you about achieving them at home and the requirements, please talk with them.
There is also another Journey Workshop coming up on Jan. 14... one for each of the girls to earn another Journey....sponsored by another Troop. Fliers will be out next meeting, if they were not out at Caroling...
Any questions on Badge/Patch Placement....text me...!

New Badges

Debuting in the Fall of 2011, we have added some NEW Girl Scout Badges to the collection.
I have to say, I am really impressed with these. They are adorable and some are great lessons for the girls...!

I cannot wait to get the year started because not only do the girls learn new things, many times I do as well....! We're learning together....!

A Great First Year....!

I've been thinking of our first year as a troop together.
Situations I could have handled better, did I connect with the girls, what could we change next year, did I do enough????
When I went to iron-on the badges from the last ceremony.....I would have to say....yes, we did enough as a Troop...!
These are from one year....!
 My Daisy in her Vest {minus a couple petals that didn't make it home with us from the ceremony, have to go buy some now.}
 The back of her vest.
Next year, that vest is going to be full....!
 My Brownie in her sash.
I would totally recommend everyone buying a vest instead. I know the girls are all about the cool sash, but I think I'm going to have to buy another sash for next year.
{This is not including all our summer activities!}
Did we do enough this year?
I would have to say so...!

FLIP FLOP FASHION SHOW

For the girls Art To Wear Badge, they made some flip flops out of fabric.
They got to show off their Art Work by doing a little Fashion Show.
Our girls are the biggest Diva's out there...!

Putting on Badges....

Although the Badges and Patches are fun for the girls to earn them....they are not fun for Mom's to put on...!
Granted, we don't have to sew them on anymore like my Mom used to. However, they seem to not stick very well when you iron them on. My daughters troop numbers have been also coming off!
I decided to try it a different way...!
I have this package of Heat N Bond from Jo-ann's Fabrics {across from the mall.} I am pretty sure Walmart carries this also in the craft section. It makes the fabric, or patches in this case really sticky.
 Open your roll of Heat and Bond and measure out a piece that covers your patch.  These Pumpkin Patch ones did not stick very well before.
 Cut the Heat N Bond.
 Next, cut it out into the exact shape and size you want it to be. {I put a towel under when ironing} Iron the Heat N Bond to the patch on Wool Setting and No Steam. Maybe 30 seconds or so until you know it's on good?!
 Now, peel the backing off of the Heat N Bond like so...
 Place it where ever you want on the sash and put it on just as you would normally. Iron from the back and the front {when ironing from the front, place a towel over...do not put the iron on directly to the patch!} The Heat N Bond makes it extra sticky.
 Avoid looking at my poor iron. I never ironed until recently with GS..! My iron was always used for crafts!
I hope this helps you Mom's some...! It helped me.
These are a pain to put on...!
