Project Night Night

Cadettes...
I need your Project Night Night stuff by the next Journey Workshop on Sunday, April 14th.
Drop off gently used or new: 1 blanket, 1 toy or stuffed animal, 1 book.
Ages 0-10 years old.
I am so excited about this Service Project. Thousands of children each year sleep at this homeless shelter. Imagine, not having a home to sleep in. These bags provide a little bit of comfort to those children.
Drop off your stuff anytime to me....you know you're always welcome here.
Mi Casa Es Su Casa.
This will earn you your LIA Badge. If you do not do this, you will not get that LIA Badge. Just to be clear.
On April 14th, we will set a date to drop them off at the Bakersfield Homeless Shelter.
Call me if you have any questions.

Cadette Campout.....

This Spring Break the Cadettes got together at my house for an extra badge workshop campout...!
They earned their New Cuisines Badge.
First thing they had to do was make something that is normally bought. So they made some homemade salsa and chips for us to munch on while they cooked.
They had to cook an international dish. So, they made Thai Chicken and Leek Stew.
Next, they had to make something that is from another region of the country...Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches.
Lastly, the girls were supposed to make a recipe that has been in the family for generations. I had them make my grandma's pineapple dessert.

They did a craft before it got completely dark.
With bleach and paint, they made galaxy shirts.

They also did their Public Speaking Badge while waiting for the Full Moon to come out.
They recited short stories, played charades, and did impressions of famous people.
For their Night Owl Badge, they needed to talk a walk around the neighborhood and compare their surroundings to those of the day time and how they feel.
They also needed to visit a store that is open 24 hours and see how they feel compared to in the daytime.
They went to the store for a late night snack and to interview an employee about working night shift and how it affects her life.

They slept for about ten minutes before I woke them up...!
My sleep was so off for a few days afterwards.

It was a great night earning badges with the Cadettes....not to mention I got dinner out of the deal.
Thanks parents for picking them up so early so my family could get ready to go out of town. I appreciate you..!

Birthday In A Bag

There are several good reasons, I chose to do this Service Unit Project with my Cadettes.
First off, I was trying to think of a different way to celebrate Juliette Low's Birthday.
Secondly, we are working on our Silver Awards. I thought this might get the wheels turning on a project they might be interested in. This Service Project combined my passion of children and birthday parties into one.
The girls gathered Birthday Party stuff for a few weeks.
They put the stuff into a gift bag. It was everything you need to have a birthday. Streamers, foil pans, cake mix, frosting, candles, decorations, paper plates, party hats, etc. We called them Birthday-In-A-Bag's.
We then delivered them to the Ronald McDonald House.
They were given a tour and were told how the stuff they give really helps the children.

To come up with a Silver Award Project, they need to do just that.
They needed to figure out what they are passionate about...figure out a cause....and put a plan into motion.
This little trip planted a seed of ideas.

I Am In Need Of.....

HELP...!
For our next Meeting on October 2nd, I need a parent that has a video camera to come record our Cadettes making a movie.
I would need you to show them how to work the video camera so they can learn.
If you are willing, let me know.
If we need tapes or whatever your camera uses......let me know as well.

This is a serious Badge because we never know...one of our girls can be the next Steven Spielberg....but girl version.
You would need to stick around at least until 7...then we are going to craft.
Thank you in advance for volunteering your time. I'm twisting your arm here parent...! LOL Which I shouldn't because you all are willing anyways. Love my Troop...!

*Update: Alexis' Mom responded right away. She is going to help.
But if anyone has any cute ideas for our Movie Badge...I'm all ears. I've never done the Cadettes before and totally not liking the homeworky feel of the older girls Badges....feeling like scrapping it and doing my own thang. If I'm bored, the girls, I'm sure will be bored! Just a thought I'm having....seeing if I can liven up our meetings :) They deserve it!

Girls Summit.

We ventured out this weekend to the Naval Air Force Base in Lemoore.
The Juniors and Cadettes had an opportunity to take some conference type classes.
The classes they took ranged from Jewelry Making, Knitting, First Aid, Cooking Fun, Self Defense.
Amanda and I thought it would be a great opportunity for the girls.

 Lunch Time
Some of our girls that went...!

It was a great experience for them...!
Totally worth my time :)

Monster Golfing

I know this sounds insane....but whenever I go to Council Events, I look at people's Badges.
When I see one that I want to do, I scribble a note down somewhere on something in my purse.
I saw a Monster Golfing Patch one time on a group of Cadettes and thought...I so wanted to do that with my girls.
So.....I did...end of story.

Loved that bonding time alone with the Cadettes.
Super duper fun...!
Another one I saw was making Auntie Ann's Pretzels at the mall.....I really really want to learn to do that...oh I mean, have the girls experience that....wink! Ok...so sometimes I live out things I want to do through my girls....don't judge! :)

CAMPING 2011.

Our first campout in Amanda's Backyard.
It looks like a campground doesn't it?
So, I was in charge of this event this Summer.
What I did was choose a Badge for each of the Troops to work on while Camping so they earned a Badge as well as a Backyard Camping Patch.
First, we all set up the tents.
The Cadettes and Juniors made dinner.
 The girls sewed their Sit-Upons.
They learned a new "Grace" for when we eat.
They gave the older girls an applause for their great cooking!
My husband is a wildland firefighter. He talked with the girls about outdoor jobs.
The girls divided into groups and did skits.
 Breakfast in the morning.
 Time for centers.
The Daisies made necklaces with Becky.
The Cadettes had homework for their camping badge. They had to put together a First Aid Kit.
Kimberly did an amazing job with hers.
This group learning how to tie knots with Sandy.
Amanda taught the girls how to use a compass.
 Arianna with her necklace.
Carmendee is one of our group Tagalongs.
Camping Bingo for the Daisies.
They split into groups for a Scavenger Hunt.
Looking for all the things on their list.
Time for our "Hike." We went out exploring for awhile.
Troop #2447 had a great time Camping.
The girls picked everything up so quickly, I was impressed.
They came with their homework and ready to go.
These girls are amazing!
Thanks to all the other Leaders and Husbands that helped us. <3
